M·A·Cup Coachella Tricks

If there’s one thing I stress about equally or more so than what I’m going to wear to Coachella, it’s about how I’m going to make my makeup last at Coachella. Being in a sweaty and hot desert all day for three days is not any fashionista’s ideal scenario for looking or remaining like the cute “I Woke Up Like This” you that we so strive to be. And so every year, I struggle with this concept of trying to perfect the best makeup looks that’ll make me emulate that festival bohemian chic feel without the smudgy or drippy residue or aftermath by the time the headliner rolls around. So creating today’s post out of pure selfish reasons, I asked my friends at M·A·C Cosmetics to help me (and therefore to obviously help you) with the best makeup or as I’m calling it today, “M·A·C-up” tips and tricks that’ll help you last in Indio this weekend and next. Visiting the M·A·C Pro North Robertson store in West Hollywood, I met with the amazing M·A·C Cosmetics Director of Makeup Artistry, Gregory Arlt, who’s done the makeup for all the stars from Gwen Stefani to Dita Von Teese. Sitting me down and testing out the products first hand, we give you the breakdown on the four must-have essentials that you won’t be able to live without in Indio.

When it comes to lip-wear, my biggest struggle is trying to find something that isn’t such a bother wearing, and with lip gloss it’s always that annoying sticky factor. When you’re hopping from one tent to another or trying to fight off sandstorms (aka throwback to 2013, Weekend 1, Night 3 during Red Hot Chili Peppers set), the last thing that I want to be dealing with is my hair constantly getting sucked into the gloss on my lips. So finally, there’s a solution to these problems! Becoming a hybrid between a pencil and a lip gloss, the M·A·C Patentpolish Lip Pencil ($20)is the perfect throw-and-go piece. Super comfortable on the mouth (you forget that it’s even on), the colorful pencils show brightly on the lips yet remain sheer and smooth. Best part of all? There’s an SPF factor to it that’ll help sustain those chappy lips that we’re so bound to get.

For the skin, it’s all about the  M·A·C Prep + Prime BB Beuaty Balm SPF 35 ($30) which is literally the triple threat. With a combo of a moisturizer, a little bit of a tint that helps you smooth out your skin tone, and most importantly, a 35 SPF that will give you a fair amount of sun protection, this piece is the ultimate savior. And if you need concealer in addition to this, the M·A·C Pro Longwear Concealer ($19) would be the one to get since it lasts 15 hours. (And a little M·A·C tip on concealer: never get one that’s lighter than your skin tone, but instead get one that matches your skin tone!). And if you’re looking for a good primer to mix and match with, go for the M·A·C Prep + Prime Face Protect SPF 50 ($32) which you can apply before or after the BB.

For that blush effect, you have to go for M·A·C Casual Color ($21) from the new M·A·C Playland collection**. Again with the amazing combos, Casual Color is is a two-in-one duo which is a combo of a lip and cheek coloring. (And a little M·A·C tip on applying blush: never do the “pouty face” and instead always smile when applying to give that perfect high-rise blush look!). And then once you’re done applying to the cheeks, you can casually apply some color (yes, corny pun joke intended) to your lips to give that little extra umph.

Last, but certainly not least…. THE EYES! As can be told from all of my pictures, my eyeliner is the most essential factor to my makeup and overall looks. So having this be desert-proof for me is the highest of necessary musts. For those looking to have lasting black eyeliner, my go-to has always been the M·A·C Fluidline in Blacktrack ($19) with the 208 Angled Brow Brush ($24). But it is Coachella, so why not switch it up and add a little color in addition or instead of? For that colorful look and feel (which we’ve just simply added onto my Blacktrack Fluidline), it’s all about the M·A·C Chromaline ($23)** which in this case, we’ve applied the Hi-Def Cyan color to give that gorgeous blue look.

(And for those who get teary eyed, try out the M·A·C Liquidlast Liner ($19.50) or M·A·C Superslick Liquid Eye Liner ($19.50) as your alternative which is waterproof)
