To continue on the spirit of #HALLOMONTH, today I’m giving a little inspiration for one of my FAVORITE joint costume ideas. Being a huge fan of Mario Kart growing up (I KILLED IT on the rainbow race track portion….clearly then I should have realized that I was a unicorn at heart), this costume idea has always been a dream of mine to do. And not to mention, who didn’t want to be Princess Peach growing up?
This can easily be a full on group costume effort, but decided for today’s post to make it a joint venture and got my little friend Dylan to hop in on the fun to be Mario for the occasion. What I love about this Mario Kart costume is that it’s super simple to make! All you need for the outfits are blue pants and a red top for Mario and I used a tutu skirt I had and a pink leotard to emulate Princess Peach. Of course, it’s essential to grab a tiara to be the Princess and while you don’t have to have a blonde wig depending on how in depth you want to take the look and costume, I thought it would be fun for my look to give the full Princess Peach effect. For Mario’s hat, I bought a plain red cap and added the M emblem on it. And last but not least–the karts! I made these by grabbing a few cardboard boxes I had lying around and cut off all of the sides (except left one for the front where we held onto), added with construction paper the black wheels and the P and M emblems, got some balloons to tie to the back, and VALAH– you have your real life Mario Kart!
