I distinctly remember one of the first posts that I ever wrote on my blog as an initial inspiration was about Demi Lovato. Such a simple and little post I did, I wrote this during a time in which she was just announced and starting as a judge on the X-Factor and when I was completely obsessed with her style and tie-dyed colored hair. And thus my post was a simple ode to just that. Now, fast forward 3 years laters, it’s kind of surreal to think that something I started as a fun inspiration post on my blog has lead me to being able to actually turn it into a true inspiration post with a full-fledged interview.
As we all now, Demi has gone through some struggles in her life that she is open about. And while her style (and hair) is still amazing and a continual fashion inspiration, today Demi is featured on my blog not only as one of my favorite fashionistas, but more so instead as an inspiration for the type of vocal role model she has become to people all over the world. Sweet and down-to-earth, I had the chance to talk to Demi about everything from her skin care line to the new adorable new baby in her life– her pup!
Fashionlaine: Tell me a little bit about Devonne by Demi and your involvement with it.
Demi Lovato: So to start off with my involvement with this, I’m in it 100%– this is my pride and joy and my little baby. Basically I’ve been a huge fan of skin care since I was young. I had this book from when I was 8 years old that had all of these recipes on face masks and etc that you can make with ingredients that were all in your kitchen. So I would make them and felt really good about myself because I was taking care of myself. And my mom would walk into the kitchen and be like “what are you doing” and I’d respond excitedly “I’m taking care of myself!” So from a young age, I was always into that. And as I got older, I was still very passionate about skin care. And I’ve had very popular skin care companies approach me with large amounts of money asking if I would be their ambassador, but since I had never used their products, I didn’t want to put my name on it. Same thing with this skin care line, I use it everyday. And if I didn’t use it, I would change the formula to something that I did use and loved. This isn’t an endorsement deal, it’s something I’m very passionate about. I love everything about this skin care line.
FL: Do you have a favorite product from the line?
DL: It just depends on actually what the scenario is. I’m flying a lot right now, I just got off tour in Asia so I’ve used the hydrating mist a ton when I’m flying– it’s so good I love it! Even when I’m not flying and if my skin is just dry after I do my makeup, I use it to add a little bit of a glowy look. And then the moisturizer is my pride and joy. I love the moisturizer!
FL: Since you’re traveling a bunch, do you have a must-have staple piece in your wardrobe right now?
DL: I think boyfriend jeans are my go-to item. Only because they’re just so comfy to travel in!
FL: You are such an inspiration to so many people through your own stories, experiences, and speeches that you give with each and every show and performance you put on. Who do you look to as your own inspiration?
DL: The people that are in my life today are my inspirations. Whether it’s family, friends, boyfriend– everyone that is in my life today is there for a reason. And I try to maintain that mentality when it comes to inviting people into my life now. I ask myself– “Are they going to be people that inspire me in my life to be a better person? Do they have my best interest at heart?” So I definitely would say my friends and family are my biggest inspirations.
FL: Last but not least, I saw you brought your super adorable dog Buddy to today’s event! I just recently got my own dog this past year and it has been a life-changing experience personally. How has it been for you and is this your first dog?
DL: Haha, it is! I had another dog named Oliver at one point in time but I got him when I was young and when I was in and out of sobriety so I joke that I lost custody over him, but he’s with my family now and has become the family dog. So with Buddy, this is the first time in my life that I can take care of my own puppy. I bring him everywhere me– he’s my little baby and has made me into such a mom now! I was in New York the other night and there was a dinner that I was at and the whole time I just kept thinking to myself “I just want to get back upstairs to my room to be with my dog.”
