A Costume Design Affair

It's been award season madness here in LA the past two months with everything from the Golden Globes, to the SAG Awards, Grammys, and now the Oscars coming up this weekend. So there was no more perfect way in my mind to kick off Oscars week than with being able to attend the Costume Design Guild Awards with Lacoste at the Beverly Hilton this past Tuesday. Being at the awards and seeing all of these costume designers, really artists in their own crafts, getting awarded and acknowledged for all the hard and really (wha I think) as unappreciated hard work, I feel like that night, I really got to see first hand what thought really goes into the wardrobe actors wear in film, TV shows, and even commercials. We don't necessarily think about the role one's wardrobe plays as we're watching a film or show, but it's that effortless talent that these costume designers have to translate a character so easily with the simplicity of their wardrobe that makes that actor's character what is and more. If you saw on my snapchat @iamfashionlaine (I've dropped in two videos below from my snap for you to check out!), I got to see some of my fave fashionistas from Kate Beckinsale to Krysten Ritter hit the stage and got to see Quentin Tarantino and Cate Blanchett both get honored with awards. The night was too much fun, and I think I can definitely say that I left there appreciating the art of fashion even more.

Primetime Emmys 2013: Best Dressed

What I think is so special about the Primetime Emmys and makes it stand out amongst the other award shows of its kind (like the Golden Globes), is that the Emmys is dedicated to solely bringing together all of your favorite TV stars. Unlike musicians and actors in movies, us fans and audience members have a different connection with TV actors. Guaranteed to come back again and again each week, our fave TV stars become like family to us, welcoming us into their lives and in return us welcoming them into our homes week after week; always knowing we can count on them to give us a good story line that we can bond over with our friends afterwards. You simply feel like you know them-- like these characters are your true friends, boyfriends, girlfriends, and arch nemeses. So when the Primetime Emmys roll around, everyone crosses their fingers for their faves to win the coveted golden statue, while peering closely at the red carpet to see what stylish outfit they decided to strut down in. And as I do with every major award show, I have once again broken down my top 10 picks for my favorite outfits from this year's 65th Annual Primetime Emmys.

So excited that super cute and hilarious Anna Farris  is going to be heading to the TV world with her new show "Mom", she shows us that you don't need a bunch of frills and sequins to look spectacular. The yellow color and slight slit worked perfectly with her bobbin bangs.

Dress: Monique Lhuillier // Shoes: Jimmy Choo // Jewelry: Fred Leighton

Coming a long way from her Blossom days (is it weird that I could so see myself wearing the clothes Blossom wore?...), "The Big Bang Theory" star Mayim Bialick looked gorg in this sheer long sleeve emerald number. The hint of embellished sequins on the shoulders, elbows and waist gave this outfit that little extra umph that made it go all the way.

Dress: Oliver Tolentino // Shoes: Oliver Tolentino // Clutch: Swarovski // Jewelry: Takat (ring), Bellarri (earrings)

Big time winner "Homeland" star Claire Danes was definitely one that people were excited and waiting to see walk down the red carpet.  This low-rimmed sequined spaghetti top which was paired with this beautiful laced bottom was nothing short of another Armani masterpiece.

Dress: Armani Prive // Shoes: Christian Louboutin // Cluth: Tods // Jewelry: Neil Lane

I freakin love Sarah Hyland. She always takes the cake as one of the best dressed girls on any red carpet. Being to me the best dressed "Modern Family" co-star from yesterday (she's the only one that made it onto this list), this beautiful emerald & black lace dress combined with that dark red lipstick made for the perfect combination and the perfect fall look.

Dress: CH Carolina Herrera // Shoes: Giuseppe Zanotti // Clutch: Swarovski // Jewelry: Lorraine Schwartz

Unlike Julianne Hough's way too short and way too see through body suit leotard dress that she rolled up in on the red carpet, Leslie Mann showed how to tastefully do a see-through look. The black zig-zagged styled combined with the white slip made this dress go from simple to chic.

Dress: J Mendel

Not really knowing "Mad Men" star Linda Cardellini too well prior to this past Emmys, she definitely caught my attention with this stunning dress. Feeling like award shows like these are the only times throughout the year that people can get completely dressed up, I love it when I see people fulfill my dreams and wear gowns on the carpet. So when I laid my eyes on this one that Linda rocked, I instantly fell in love with the intricate yet beautiful designs of the fabric and dress.

Dress: Donna Karan Atelier // Shoes: Jimmy Choo // Clutch: Rauwolf // Jewelry: Irene Neuwirth

I'm probably 100% biased for my feelings towards Julia Louis- Dreyfus because she represented the most epic name on her days on "Seinfeld" (ehm ehm Elaine ehm ehm). But since leaving that show, I think Julia has grown even more and has become even more of a talented actress on her show "Veep" ....and looking stunning while doing it. This outstanding Monique dress made for yet just another to add to her best dressed list.

Dress: Monique Lhuillier // Shoes: Christian Louboutin // Cluth: Edie Parker // Jewelry: Martin Katz (earrings), Lorraine Schwartz (ring)

Mindy Kaling is the best and definitely one of the latest comedians heading into the spotlight in a major way with her hit show "The Mindy Kaling Project". And what better way to celebrate all of the success than by completely killing it on the red carpet? Simple yet glamorous, with a stoned cut out design at the top, Mindy stood out against the clutter on the red carpet looking like a true star.

Dress: Edition by Georges Chakra // Clutch: Jerome C. Rousseau

Just recently being dubbed as the world's best dressed woman in People Magazine, "Scandal" star Kerry Washington reminded everyone exactly why that was. Seeing this dress, no extra explanation is really necessary. With a beautiful floral pattern throughout the gown and the cutest white clutch to match, it was easy to see why Kerry probably made it on every best dressed list.

Dress: Marchesa // Shoes: Christian Louboutin // Clutch: Edie Parker clutch // Jewelry: Moavdo (watch), Fred Leighton (jewelry)

Through all the gowns, styles, and looks that hit the red carpet yesterday, there was one that automatically stole my heart the second I laid eyes on it. Making her way to becoming one of TV's royalties and princesses, "The Big Bang Theory" star Kaley Cuoco slayed it on the carpet once again with this Vera Wang number. Showing us that she's not only hilarious, but an incredibly gorgeous girl with incredibly amazing style and taste, it's easy to see why Kaley deserved the best dressed award of the evening. (And her shoes are from Aldo?! I instantly love her that much more.)

Teen Choice Awards 2013

Yesterday was the Teen Choice Awards and seeing a bunch of statuses, hashtags, and excitement built around the award show that I used to devotedly be in love and obsessed with took me back to my teen youth days when the pages of YM, Teen People, and J-14 covered my walls (...and if you don't recall any of these magazines, then MAN do I feel old). But why did I love this award show so much? It definitely wasn't anything as big as the Oscars, Grammys or even the VMAs. Yet, seeing things like (what was for me) iconic clips such as the one above of Britney and Justin winning Hottest Male and Female, the Teen Choice Awards always had a special place in my heart. Watching last night's show with the incredibly adorable Darren Criss and Lucy Hale, I quickly soon realized what it was about the show that made it so special. Other than the incredible excitement of seeing your fave celebs take the stage which has gone from my days of N*Sync to One Direction, Britney Spears to Selena Gomez, 7th Heaven to Glee, and Charmed to Pretty Little Liars, what's the true heart and soul of this award show is the strong connection us past and present teens feel with everyone in attendance. I remember when I would avidly count down the days until the Teen Choice Awards (even taking on the role as a Seatfiller a few times). I would really take in every single word that my favorite celebs would say, admiring everything about them and the messages that they were trying to push through. And it's evident to see how the Teen Choice Awards still remains the same. Whether we all cried along with our Glee family and Lea Michele as she was talking about Cory Monteith or if we were jotting down mental notes and getting inspired by Ashton Kutcher's motivational speech, the Teen Choice Awards reminds us of a time when it was ok to open our hearts, dream big, and be open to the endless possibilities that the world has to offer. As we grow older and enter the real world, we forget about our careless and stress-free days and worry too much about the present and the future. So today's post is dedicated to inspiring us once again to remember those much simpler times in life and remember to "work hard, be smart, and live life" as the wise Ashton Kutcher just said last night.

And of course, this would be no proper post without giving my breakdown of my top fashion picks of the most fashionable teens that  werqed yesterday's blue carpet

Obviously I have to start out with the Prince and Princess of yesterday's show, the co-hosts Lucy Hale and Darren Criss. I think what I love most about their styles is that they always manage to look so amazing, yet it always comes off as no effort at all was put into looking like such flawless stunners. With Darren's dapper suit and tie and with Lucy's shout out to my crop top/high waisted skirt obsession combo, these two definitely were dressed to run the show.

Darren: Suit: Emporio Armani

It would be no fashion breakdown if I didn't include the dreamy One Direction boys or (1D as many people like to abbrev). What's perfect about this to-die-for boy band, is that they not only have the talent and looks, but they all collectively know how to always kill it with their style.

Shake It Up's Bella Thorne definitely worked it yesterday with this cute palm tree dreamy look. Not typically a fan of prints, she 100% won me over with this adorable getup.

Top: Fausto Puglisi // Skirt: Fausto Puglisi // Shoes: Candie's // Clutch: DvF // Jewelry: XIV Karats

Selena Gomez without a doubt always brings it to the red carpet. A huge personal daily fashionista favorite of mine, I'm always excited to see what she's going to wear next because I know without a doubt that I'm going to quickly obsess over everything she wears.

Dress: Cushnie et Ochs// Shoes: Nicholas Kirkwood // Jewelry: Neil Lane

The cast of one of my all-time favorite shows right now , Pretty Little Liars, (actually, I'm pretty sure that's the only show I watch right now) was definitely part of the royalty on the blue carpet yesterday. So excited to see what each of these super popular fashionistas were going to roll up with on the carpet, I must say, Shay Mitchell definitely won me over the most with this fabulous romper and gold metallic heels.

Jumpsuit: Jenni Kayne // Shoes: Jimmy Choo // Jewelry: Kimberly McDonald

Last but certainly not least, I couldn't leave out Lily Collins. This outfit was wayyy to die for to not include in my roundup. An ode to Bella Thorne's palm trees print, this different take with the top and high to low skirt resulted in probably hands down being my favorite outfit of the evening. Lily knows how to own it every time I've seen her on a carpet, and this time was definitely no exception.
