The New Holiday Sweater

Christmas Sweater Christmas this, Christmas that. While Hanukkah takes place 8 out of the 365 days of the year and Christmas is only one, I feel like Christmas gets all the love and Hanukkah is put to the side. So today, I decided it was time to give Hanukkah that little attention it deserves. Sure, it's way easier to partake in Christmas celebrations because there's all these fun decorations, trees, Santa Clauses, gingerbread cookies and more in toe. But this year, Christmas sweaters beware! Hanukkah is competing in full swing with probably the most epic line of sweaters and cardigans I have ever seen. Whether you celebrate Hanukkah or not, you have to admit that these catchy sweaters and styles from Geltfiend are so freakin cute that you'd want to wear them too (I'm pretty sure Kanye West wouldn't hesitate in rockin one either). With a vintage yet super trendy feel to the pieces and with a Hanukkah themed pattern and print that is casually blended into the look, this cardigan along with the other styles easily go from kitschy and cheesy to classy and amazing. When I first laid eyes on this cardigan, I was floored with its amazingness that I just had to have it. Liking to have my cardigans a little bit baggy, I chose to get the men's cardigan to which I then tucked into today's skirt (even though I could easily have layered it over a good pair of  leggings). But don't think that I'm the only one who's caught the eye and attention of these epic pieces. Recently featured in Cosmopolitan Magainze, Bust Magazine, and The Maccabeats' (a popular all-male Jewish accapella group that spoofs famous songs) latest and great music video for their Hanukkah rendition of Ellie Goulding's "Burn", it's safe to say that this year Hanukkah is getting the love it deserves.

Office Fashion Throughout college I was always trying to figure out "what I wanted to be when I grew up". What was I going to study? What was my life career going to be from here on out? I went through many phases, one of which was taking the pre-med route for a full three years of college, and another being buckling down and studying for the LSAT to go to law school. Forget the painful hours I spent studying, forget the concepts I had to memorize and learn about brains, cells, and ecosystems, and forget about the bajillion reading comprehensions and math logic problems I had to sit and try to figure out. Above all of those thoughts, hours, and time, there was one consistent thought that would go through my head every time I'd envision my future profession-- what would I wear?  I think from that point I should have seen the signs and forseen that fashion was going to play an important factor in my life. Because while others were trying to be logical and consider careers that would guarantee financial stability, longevity, and require a skilled and unique talent, I was over here factoring whether or not it would be appropriate to wear headbands with my work attires (and I'm pretty sure a doctor's office or a court room would rule that concept as a big fat no). So with today's look, I consider this my Fashionlaine official office fashion. With a super cute blazer, leotard, pant suits, heels, and of course, a headband, I remind myself and many other fashionistas who are trying to figure out the appropriate balance between work and fun attire that there are still ways you can be yourself.

Anniversary Outfit 1 Everyone always wonders what the future holds-- where you're going to be, what you're going to be doing, who you're going to be hanging with, and more. That's the crazy thing about the future. Where you are in your life at this very moment might be something completely different a year from now. Some of the hardest struggles in life that you don't know how you'll ever get through might now seem like the faintest memories of the past, and some of the most miniscule moments that didn't mean anything at the time may be some of the best and most precious moments you look back on and smile. I always hear myself saying "oh my gosh, can you believe a year ago we were doing this? Can you believe we were at that?" Memories are such a precious thing to have because at the end of the day, seeing your growth, remembering your past, and even going through those struggles that seemed unbearable is what life is all about.

A year ago today I launched this little blog simply to share my love of fashion. I remember the months I took to gear up for it-- the countless hours I spent trying to get the layout perfected, taking pictures, brainstorming ideas, and more. I remember talking to those closest around me and telling them how I was starting this crazy thing called a "fashion blog" and asking for ideas for names, for suggestions, and thoughts. And then I remember a year ago today, when I nervously shared this blog with all of you wondering "what will people think? Will they love it? Will they hate it?". Because you see, a blog is not something simple like a document or a powerpoint you're turning in. It's a part of your mind, your personality, your time, your thoughts, and your presence. And now, here I am, a year later, with New York Fashion Week under my belt and with having worked with some of the  most amazing brands both ones that I've been fans of for years and ones that I've instantly become fans of since. A year ago today I did not in my wildest dreams think that I would be focusing on this blog full time and going after my own words of inspiration and chasing dreams. A year ago today I was just Elaine, but today I'm now also Fashionlaine.

I'm so excited to have been able to grow with you, to learn with you, and to be inspired by all of you. Thanks for following me along on this journey, sharing my stories, and enjoying my crazy outfits and headbands (like this fab anniversary outfit) with me. I know this is only just the beginning and I can't wait to take you all along for the future. And as I always say, if there's one thing I hope for this blog to do, it's to inspire you to get out there and do what you love. Because as you can see with me, it's really possible to chase your dreams.

Happy Fashionlainiversary! xo Fashionlaine
